Hey everyone, it’s Jessica and Samantha here! In today’s episode, Sam and I dove into how we make time to hang out with our gal pals amidst the craziness of kids and family life. As a mom, it can feel so tough (and even a bit selfish) to step away, but trust me, it’s SO important for your well-being.
When Sam had her son, Beau, she and her husband Brett barely did anything just the two of them for months. I mean, we took a 3-day work trip to Florida when Beau was 6 months old (lots of planning ahead as a breastfeeding mom!), but that was really it until they went to a friend’s wedding when he was 8 months old. It felt like forever!
For moms’ nights, Sam, our sis Sydney, her friend Sarah try to get together for low-key stuff like brunch or dinner every couple months. In the early days, friends would often come to her since it was easier. The key is being intentional about making that time, even if it’s just them popping by for an hour. Those little breaks to talk and laugh with your girls are everything.
I shared how my generation did things a bit differently – my husband and I are best friends and we tend to do more date nights and get-togethers with family/neighbors who had kids. Super casual hangs, but still a chance to feel a bit more relaxed and like yourself again.
The big takeaway? Whether it’s brunch with besties, date night with the hubs, or low-key family time, prioritizing some “me time” away from the kiddos is crucial for us moms. Even a quick walk or boat ride can help you destress and come back refreshed.
So give yourself permission to take that time, sans guilt! Call up your crew and get something on the calendar, whether it’s mimosas and laughs over brunch or a chill dinner. Trust me, you’ll be a better mama for it. Happy mom’s night out!
