Weekly Check in
Each week I will check in with you to see how things are going on your Whole30 journey! I’ll be providing some tips and tricks to staying on track throughout the week. We will talk about different things you may be experiencing such as sugar cravings, mood swings and fatigue during your first week. We’ll talk about your energy levels and that tiger blood I referred to earlier. This will be a fun space for us to talk about different things we may be experiencing throughout our individual journeys.
Whole30: Week 1
Day 1 has finally come. We did it! Our journey has begun and I cannot be more excited. This week is all about firsts. You wake up and are super excited to get started! You have your meals and snack all planned out and nothing or no one is going to derail you. This is a great attitude to have but don’t get too excited. Feeling so motivated is great but it’s only day 1 and these feelings may fade a bit. So if you have a minor screw up here and there, please don’t beat yourself up about it. Just try to be better next time. This process is all about consistency so really try to stay compliant as best you can. I suggest not eating out the first couple of weeks until you start to get the hang of what foods are compliant and those that are not.
The Hangover
You may realize that you are more tired than normal this week. Day 2 and 3 you may get out of bed feeling like you drank a bottle of wine..or two the night before (we wish). This is normal and expected. Go ahead, think about what you used to eat on a day to day basis. You likely ate potato chips, muffins, candy, fast food, etc. Now, your body is detoxing and is basically going through withdrawal. The crappier you feel the next couple days is a direct indication of how much crap you put into your body before starting this program. You will most likely feel a tad grumpy, fatigued and experience headaches during this part of the program. Just relax, drink LOTS of water and dial down your workout routine. It’s OK to give your body time to adjust.
I love you, but I want to punch you!
Days 4-5 you surprisingly wake up and feel like you skipped the two bottles of wine from the nights before and have a rather clear head. You think to yourself that today is going to be a good day. Then you are greeted by your significant other, kids, co-worker or whoever and all you can think about is punching them in the face! Why are they so happy? Why are they talking to me? Why do I dislike them so much right now? These are all normal thoughts for this part of the program. Congrats! You are halfway through your first week 🙂 If you find everyone scattering away from you at home or work, don’t take it personally. You will be back to yourself in no time. haha
I’m so sleepy! Zzz
You are nearly through your first week! Days 6-7 you may feel so tired that you don’t know how you are going to make it through the day, let alone get out of bed. At least you don’t feel like killing anyone today right? It will get better, I promise! Your body has been using all the sugar you were eating to fuel your body. Now that the sugar is gone your body will use fat to fuel your body! That is what we want! Take it day by day and just remember that it is all worth it! Lean on your support system for encouragement during these tough times. Remember why you started this program and how great you will feel on day 30!
Until next week. Good luck whole30ers! YOU GOT THIS!
I’d love to hear from you!
What’s been your biggest struggle so far?
